De Sint Jacobsschelp is met zijn fraai gevormde roze-achtige waaierschelp van 10 centimeter doorsnee een opvallende verschijning. Ze worden van Noorwegen tot de Middellandse Zee gevangen. Door handelaren wordt de schelp ook wel Coquille St. Jacques genoemd.
